Novena Invitation

A few words from our Provincial, Sister Genevieve Marie Vigil, as we prepare to celebrate on July 15th this special year.

“As we close the end of the Year of Prayer for the Canonization of Blessed  Anne Marie and commemorate the 170 years since her death, I invite you to join with us in a novena of prayer and reflection.

We invite you to visit the Cluny website, (clunyusandcanada.org)to daily be inspired by the attitudes of Blessed Anne Marie expressed in her thoughts throughout her life. The tab, AMJ Thoughts,  reveal a woman whose heart "beat only for God and souls”.

We also invite you to pray for the 9 days before July 15th with our blog, clunyusandcanada.blogspot.com-(the orange B on the website), which will be focused on the gifts which Blessed Anne Marie exhibited in her life and shared with the world.

We Cluny Sisters will enter into the Novena with a deep sense of gratitude for the gift of being called to Cluny as well as the many ways in which our Associates and Affiliates share the spirit of Blessed Anne-Marie with us.

May this time of prayer be a time of great grace for each of us.

Anne Marie Javouhey’s vision of children and peoples of all colors and cultures became the charism and missionary zeal of the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph to ‘Go Out’ to all the world and ‘Proclaim’ the Good News of the Gospel.

Our missionary spirituality grounds us in a communal, contemplative discernment that searches ‘to know and do the Will of God’.

Today, 2,600 Cluny Sisters living in Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands, serve in 57 Countries.  The dynamism of diverse languages, cultures and mission experiences strengthens our unity and sense of belonging.  It calls us to live more authentically our charism as missionary disciples in a new world, by participating in the Mission of Jesus to evangelize, heal and liberate all peoples, especially the poor, the least the lost and the last.  Going to the peripheries and beyond boundaries, the mission includes the whole of God’s creation.

‘O, how happy we are
to have so beautiful a vocation’
Anne Marie Javouhey

Anne-Marie Javouhey was born in France on November 11, 1779. In 1807, she founded the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny who dedicated themselves to the care of the sick and to teaching.  She wrote,

"...There is so much resourcefulness in children.
It is on them that I count if God wishes to use us for such a great apostolate..."

Called to minister to the colonies, Anne Marie devoted herself to the emancipation of the slaves. She died July 15, 1851.

As we begin the celebrations united in a Novena of Prayer, you are
invited to join us each day in prayer and to continue to pray for the
Canonization of our Founder, Blessed Anne Marie Javouhey; the
Collaboration and participation in the Mission of Jesus and the
unfolding of the future of our Province.
