Give Us Living Water

"If you knew the gift of God"

and who is saying to you,

‘Give me a drink,‘

you would have asked him

and he would have given you

Living Water.”

John 4

We enter into the Jesus Story finding ourselves standing beside this ‘Woman at the Well’.  Our life, like hers, full of hope and desires. Searching, thirsting and longing are hallmarks of this Lenten mission of mercy.

Listen:          Listen to the dialogue between Jesus and this woman.
Reflect:        Reflect on your own hopes and desires.
Act:           Recognize the hopes of others and bring compassion
                            and mercy to them.
Pray:         Jesus, in your mercy, give us living water to drink!

Mercy: Our Lenten Mission

  Create
In us
a new heart
and
transfigure us

Lent plunges us into the breadth, length, height and depth of God’s mercy and our human need for healing, forgiveness, reconciliation and peace. This Mercy engages us in stories and storytelling.

Throughout Lent, we follow Jesus, Word made flesh and the Face of Mercy. The Jesus Story reveals words, actions, relationships, service, suffering and death and the call to ‘be merciful as the Father is full of mercy’ (Luke 6:36).

During our Lenten mission of mercy, Pope Francis invites each of us to become ‘Missionaries of this Mercy’.  Through our Lenten practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving each day, we bring hope and compassion to an anguished and wounded world. We speak, act, relate, serve, and suffer too as we listen and hear deeply our own daily human stories and those of our companions on this journey.

Transfigure us, O Lord, Transfigure us, O Lord.
Break the chains that bind us; speak your healing word,
and where you lead we’ll follow.
Transfigure us, O Lord.

Remember and Return

Ash Wednesday calls us home once again. Sealed again in ashes with the Cross of Jesus Christ we remember that we are human and not divine. We are weak and tempted; chosen and sent forth. Throughout the 40 Days of Lent we will practice Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving.  Called to rediscover Jesus and recommit ourselves to following the Gospel, we will repeat often this ancient mantra…
“Jesus Christ
Son of the Living God
Have Mercy on me a Sinner”
