Remembering Sister Brigid Costelloe, SJC

Sister Brigid Costelloe passed peacefully to God December 11, 2012 at Jeanne Jugan Residence, San Pedro, California.  Brigid was born in Cork, Ireland, October 18, 1927 into a family of strong traditional and religious values.  She was the fourth of five children. Sister Brigid entered St. Joseph of Cluny novitiate in Ireland, September 1947.  Her first assignment was to Philadelphia and then on to Wilmington, CA where she joined the faculty of Ss. Peter and Paul School.  She subsequently devoted many years to classroom education at St. Catherine Laboure School, Torrance, CA and Cluny School, Newport, RI. Sister Brigid also served various parishes in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, including the Spirituality Center in Orange, CA in the areas of RCIA, adult religious education and spiritual direction.

For the last six years of Sister Brigid’s life she benefited from the loving and excellent care of the Little Sisters of the Poor and the staff of Jeanne Jugan Residence, San Pedro, CA. She will be sadly missed by her Cluny Sisters, many nieces and nephews in San Diego and Ireland, and her numerous friends. The Mass of Resurrection was celebrated at the Jeanne Jugan Residence Chapel, San Pedro. Burial followed at All Souls Cemetery, Long Beach, CA. May Sister Brigid, after her many years of devoted service in building the Lord’s Kingdom, now rest in peace.
