Mercy: Our Lenten Mission

  Create
In us
a new heart
and
transfigure us

Lent plunges us into the breadth, length, height and depth of God’s mercy and our human need for healing, forgiveness, reconciliation and peace. This Mercy engages us in stories and storytelling.

Throughout Lent, we follow Jesus, Word made flesh and the Face of Mercy. The Jesus Story reveals words, actions, relationships, service, suffering and death and the call to ‘be merciful as the Father is full of mercy’ (Luke 6:36).

During our Lenten mission of mercy, Pope Francis invites each of us to become ‘Missionaries of this Mercy’.  Through our Lenten practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving each day, we bring hope and compassion to an anguished and wounded world. We speak, act, relate, serve, and suffer too as we listen and hear deeply our own daily human stories and those of our companions on this journey.

Transfigure us, O Lord, Transfigure us, O Lord.
Break the chains that bind us; speak your healing word,
and where you lead we’ll follow.
Transfigure us, O Lord.
