We Remember Sister Joseph

ON MISSION TO HER DYING BREATH

Sister Joseph Edwards, 101, went peacefully to God at St. Clare Home, Newport, RI, on Nov. 2, 2017. Born in Lawn, Newfoundland, April 18, 1916, her heart’s desire was to become a Missionary Nun and go afar. She entered religious life with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny and pronounced her vows on March 20, 1939 in Paris, France. Two weeks later she sailed to India, ministering in Chandernagore near Calcutta and Cuddalore, South India. In 1951, Sister Joseph came to the USA where she served in St. Joseph's Home for Boys, Philadelphia, PA and Providence, Manville and Newport, Rhode Island. In 2006, she began a ministry of presence and prayer in residence at St. Clare Home.

Sister Joseph is predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Norah Edwards, 1 brother and 3 sisters. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Sarah and many nephews and nieces.  She will be missed by her family, friends, and many Cluny Sisters around the world. Special thanks to the staff of St. Clare Home for their loving care of Sister Joseph.
