We Remember Sister Andrew Crean

Sister Andrew Crean, SJC

Sister Andrew Crean passed peacefully to God on May 4th, 2015 at Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital in San Pedro, California.  She was born in County Mayo, Ireland on January 24th, 1942.  Through the example and love of her family, she and her brothers learned to love God and neighbor.  Following in the footsteps of her aunt, Sister Gemma, SJC, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny in Ireland, February 1960.
After her religious profession in 1962, she came to the United States where she ministered in Rhode Island at the Cathedral Rectory in Providence and served in other diocesan residences in Stella Maris, Newport and Watch Hill.  Her dedication and gentle presence were gifts to all she met in her various ministries.
In the 1990’s, Sister moved to California where she ministered in hospitals in the South Bay area. During the last 20 years Sister’s health declined.  On February 21st, 2015, after a hospital stay, Sister was transferred to Los Palos Convalescent Home, San Pedro, California, where Sister was making a good recovery.  On May 4th Sister quite unexpectedly went home to God.
Sister Andrew will be sadly missed by her Cluny Sisters, her brothers Andy and Kevin, as well as her sister-in-law, Bernadette and her many cousins and friends.
Services were held at Mary Star of the Sea Church, 877 W. 7th Street, San Pedro, California.  Sister was buried at All Souls Cemetery, Long Beach, California.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cluny Sisters’ Retirement Fund and/or Cluny Missions.
