Providence Diocese Opens Year of Consecrated Life

Rejoice!
Cluny Sisters attend the opening of the Year of Consecrated Life
in the Diocese of Providence, RI
.
A Vespers Service was held on the Vigil of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception inviting all the religious, clergy and laity of the diocese to gather together in prayer for the official opening to this year dedicated to consecrated persons.

The ancient church prayer of Vespers has been chanted, said and sung throughout the church by religious men and women from the very beginnings of religious life in the monasteries of the east and west.  With the emergence of apostolic religious life in the second millennium, religious continued this tradition in communities worldwide.

As St. Paul noted, we are to pray always.  The Liturgy of the Hours, celebrated by religious men and women, monastic and apostolic, continues this praying of the hours, as the incessant prayer of the Church to God.  It is fitting that the Year of Consecrated Life open with the manner of prayer that has been present in religious life throughout the centuries, as consecrated persons have sought to follow Christ in each age, in each time, in each culture.

The celebration opened and closed with the singing of the newly composed song by Stephen Warner, “Wake Up The World”.  Bishop Thomas J. Tobin presided and Bro. Clifford King, SC offered a brief reflection.
